Meanwhile, European powerhouses like Bayern Munich, record champions Real Madrid their rivals Barcelona, and Italy’s surprise package Como 1907 complete a star-studded automatic lineup.
These 29 confirmed clubs will bypass the preliminary rounds entirely, awaiting the final seven entrants currently battling through the summer qualifiers.
How will the remaining seven teams join the 29 qualifiers?
The race to claim the remaining seven spots is in full swing, split between the Champions Path for lower-ranked domestic league winners and the League Path for runners-up from higher-ranked associations.
Qualification for UEFA’s club competitions is specifically designed to ensure that teams from at least 37 national associations reach the league phase of the Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League.

Teams eliminated in the Champions League and Europa League qualifying rounds are handed a second chance by dropping into the Europa League or Conference League.
Meanwhile, clubs defeated in the Champions League and Europa League play-offs advance directly into the league phase of the Europa League and Conference League, respectively.
UEFA Champions League format
For the third consecutive season, the UEFA Champions League will feature a 36-team single-league phase, completely replacing the traditional four-team group stage.
Instead of facing three opponents twice, every qualified club will play eight matches against eight different opponents – four at home and four away- with fixtures determined by a seeding system divided into four pots.

League table performance will then directly determine progression.
The top eight teams automatically qualify for the Round of 16, while clubs finishing between ninth and 24th enter a two-legged knockout play-off to secure the remaining eight places.
Teams finishing 25th or lower are eliminated from European competition entirely, with no drop into the UEFA Europa League.
Key dates for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League
As of August 2026, the high-stakes third qualifying round is underway, with return legs scheduled for 11 August before the decisive play-off round on 18–19 and 25–26 August.
Once the field is finalized during the league phase draw on 27 August, the main competition will run from 8 September 2026 through late January 2027.
The knockout phase play-offs take center stage in February, paving the way for the Round of 16 and quarter-finals across March and April.
The long journey through Europe’s premier club competition will culminate on 5 June 2027, when the final two teams standing battle for the trophy at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid.
